Install TimeScroll
Set up in about two minutes. Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon or Intel.

Download and move to Applications
Unzip the download and drag TimeScroll into your Applications folder. Then open it. If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, click Open.

Allow Screen Recording
TimeScroll walks you through this on first launch. In System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen Recording, turn on TimeScroll. macOS may ask you to reopen the app.

Turn on Direct mode (recommended)
Allow Accessibility access so TimeScroll can read on-screen text directly instead of running OCR. It uses much less energy. You can skip this and use OCR instead.

Start capturing
Click Start Capture in the app or the menu bar. In Settings ▸ General you can have it start minimized and begin capturing automatically at launch.
Optional extras
- AI search
- Settings ▸ Search. Download a MobileCLIP2 model, or point it at a local Ollama model.
- Audio transcripts
- Settings ▸ Audio. Pick a Whisper model and choose microphone and/or system audio.
- Excluded apps
- Settings ▸ Privacy. Add apps you never want captured.
- Encrypted vault
- Settings ▸ Security. Encrypt your history at rest (beta).
- Claude & MCP
- Settings ▸ MCP. Copy the config into Claude or another MCP client.
